These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Civvie The Compass LLC ("Civvie", "we", "us") and govern your use of the Civvie mobile application and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
What Civvie Is — and Is Not
Civvie is an independent educational and planning tool for military transition. It provides general guidance and information only. It is not legal, financial, tax, medical, or official VA advice, and it does not create an attorney–client, advisor, or fiduciary relationship. Civvie is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, or any government agency. You are responsible for verifying deadlines, eligibility, and benefits with official sources before acting.
CivvieAI
CivvieAI generates answers automatically from public sources such as Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations and the VA Adjudication Procedures Manual (M21-1). Answers may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, and are not reviewed by a person before you see them. Do not rely on CivvieAI as your only source for any claim, filing, or decision. Do not enter information you do not want processed by an AI provider.
Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use. You may only create accounts for yourself.
Your Content
You own the documents, notes, and other content you add to the Service. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit that content solely to operate the Service for you, including sending documents to a Veterans Service Organization when you direct us to. You are responsible for having the right to upload and share anything you add, and for the accuracy of information you provide.
Subscriptions and Purchases
Some features require a paid plan. All purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play (the "Store") and are subject to the Store's terms. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country.
Auto-renewing subscriptions (Civvie Basic, billed monthly, and Civvie Pro, billed yearly). Payment is charged to your Store account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it in your Store account settings; the app links you there. Deleting your Civvie account does not cancel a subscription.
Free trials. Where a free trial is offered, it is available once per Store account to new subscribers. Your Store account is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before then. Any unused portion of a trial is forfeited when you purchase a plan.
Lifetime (Elite). A one-time purchase that grants access for the lifetime of the Service. It does not renew. "Lifetime" means as long as Civvie offers the Service, not the lifetime of the user.
Gifts. You can buy a gift of a one-year or Lifetime plan for someone else by entering the email address of their Civvie account. The gift is tied to that account: only the person signed in with that email can redeem it, once, from Profile → My Vouchers, and it cannot be transferred to a different account. It is not redeemed with a transferable code — it unlocks only for the account it was sent to. Gifts are not exchangeable for cash. Redeeming a one-year gift grants twelve months of access; redeeming a Lifetime gift grants permanent access as described above.
Plan changes. Switching between Monthly and Yearly is handled by the Store. Upgrades take effect immediately and downgrades take effect at the next renewal, according to Store rules.
Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, the Store will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent before the new price applies. If you do not agree, your subscription ends at the close of the current period.
Refunds. Refunds are handled by the Store under its policies; we cannot issue refunds directly for Store purchases. One-time purchases and gifts are non-refundable except where the Store or applicable law requires otherwise.
Family Sharing. Where enabled by the Store, a subscription may be shared with family members. A shared subscription can only be managed by the purchaser.
Access granted by a subscription, Lifetime purchase, or gift is personal to your Civvie account and may not be resold or shared outside Family Sharing. We may suspend access obtained through fraud or abuse, including repeated free trials across multiple accounts.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the Service: no unlawful use, no attempting to access other users' data or our systems, no reverse engineering except where the law permits, no automated scraping, and no uploading content that is illegal, infringing, or harmful.
Third-Party Content and Data Sources
The Service displays information from public government sources, including the Code of Federal Regulations, the VA M21-1 manual, Department of Defense pay and housing tables, and VA-accredited representative listings. We do not control those sources and do not guarantee their completeness or that they are current.
Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, and logos, belongs to Civvie or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms. Public-domain government works remain in the public domain.
Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or where required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and your content license for retained records, will survive.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any benefit, rating, or outcome will result from using it.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Civvie will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost benefits, income, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
App Store Terms
If you obtained the app from the Apple App Store: these Terms are between you and Civvie only, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for addressing claims relating to it, including product-liability, legal or regulatory compliance, and intellectual-property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Civvie The Compass LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@civvie.app and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version in the app and on our website with an updated date and, for material changes, ask you to accept them in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
